I Was Worried About Ducks vs Preds on TV - UPDATE

When the NHL announced that the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoff series between the Anaheim Ducks and the Nashville Predators would be televised on TSN, I was worried. But, I have since learned that the Ducks will announce the local station line-up soon. But, being impatient by nature, I looked it up and found the listing at Fox Sports West. Check it out here.
Bottom line: Not to worry!

Lubo! The NHL's Top D-Man for 2010-2011?
The James Norris Memorial Trophy is an annual award given to the defense player who demonstrates throughout the season the greatest all-round ability in the position. The winner is selected in a poll of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association at the end of the regular season. Chicago Blackhawks Defenseman Duncan Keith won the trophy last year.
This year, Lubomir Visnovsky looks like the top candidate, and we'll know soon. In the mean time, here's what he's done this year:
·In 2010-11, Lubomir Visnovsky led all NHL defensemen in scoring (68), assists (50) and points-per-game (.84). He also ranked second among defensemen in goals (18), tied for second in overtime goals (2) and third in game-winning goals (4). He is the second player in club history to lead all NHL defensemen in scoring (Scott Niedermayer did so in 2006-07).
·With an assist on Apr. 9 at Los Angeles, Visnovsky established a new career high for points in a season with 18-50=58 (he scored 17-50=67 in 2005-06 with Los Angeles). He matched his career high in goals on Apr. 4 vs. Dallas (18 - also 2006-07 with Los Angeles) and matched his career best in assists on Apr. 9 at Los Angeles (had 50 in 2005-06). In addition, Visnovsky’s +18 rating set a career best (finished the 2000-01 season a +16 with Los Angeles).
·Visnovsky set a new club record for goals by a defenseman in a single season with his 17th on Apr. 2 @ SJ (previous record was 16 by Fredrik Olausson in 1998-99). His 68 points in 2010-11 were one point shy of Scott Niedermayer’s franchise record for points by a defenseman in a single campaign (15-54=69 in 2006-07).
·Visnovsky completed the 2010-11 season with points in six of his last seven games (3-4=7), nine of 11 (4-7=11, +9) and 13 of 16 (6-11=17, +13).
* He became the first defenseman in Ducks history to record a hat trick on Mar. 4 vs. Dallas. He also scored the OT goal (second of the season, third career) with just 3.8 seconds left in the extra frame in the 4-3 win. Did We See Teemu's Last Regular Season Home Game?
Congrats to the Anaheim Ducks for clinching a playoff berth last night at Honda Center, and doing it against the LA Kings (sweeter). Teemu Selanne was the game's number one star, and for good reason; he scored 2 goals, including the game winner. His post game interview was delayed while the fans in attendance chanted, "One More Year..."
As a 40 year old man playing at this level in professional sports, Selanne continues to amaze. He has 31 goals (19th overall) and 80 points (8th overall)this season. With his 16 power play goals, he is ranked #3 overall.
Selanne will be 41 in July. Will he continue? Only Selanne knows, but he has some examples from NHL history to look to. Among them, Gordie Howe. Howe set the standard for producing well into retirement years. He played until he was 51, and in his 40th year scored 44 goals and had 59 assists. Mark Messier played until he was 43 and in his 40th year notched 24 goals and 43 assists. Steve Yzerman retired at 40, but not before scoring 14 goals and dishing 20 helpers.
To watch Selanne play is to watch a man who does not seem too old to play. He's a force to be reckoned with. Each night he pulls off moves, shots, passes that cause onlookers to shake their heads in disbelief. It is impossible for me to believe that this faucet of NHL greatness will simply turn off over the summer. My guess, Selanne is coming back. What do you think?

Ducks Beat San Jose 6-2 -- What a Night for Corey Perry!
Corey Perry became the third player in franchise history to reach the 50-goal mark (Paul Kariya had 50 goals in 1995-96 & Teemu Selanne had 51 goals in 1996-97 & 52 in 1997-98). It also marks the most goals scored by a Duck since Selanne’s 52 in 1997-98. Perry currently has six more goals than anyone else in the NHL (Stamkos, 44).
The last time a player in the Western Conference scored 50-or-more goals was Calgary’s Jarome Iginla in 2007-08 (50 goals).
Perry’s 50-47=97 points are the most by a Duck since 1997-98 when Teemu Selanne scored 47-60=107 and Paul Kariya collected 39-62=101.
Perry’s hat trick tonight was the third of his career (all in 2010-11). It marks just the second time in club history that a player had three hat tricks in one season (Teemu Selanne, three in 1997-98).
Perry’s 10-game point streak (14-8=22, +11) is tied for the longest current streak in the league (NSH’s Kostitsyn also currently has 10).
Perry’s four points (3-1=4) in tonight’s contest marks his third game with four-or-more points this season and fourth such game of his career. He also recorded his 200th NHL assist tonight.

FIRST STAR -- COREY PERRY, RW, ANAHEIM DUCKS
Perry, who led all scorers with eight points (three goals, five assists) in four games, has earned his fourth NHL 'Star' selection in the past four weeks. He was named First Star for the month of March and also garnered Second- and Third-Star weekly honors. Perry recorded points in each game last week, beginning with an assist in a 5-4 victory over the Colorado Avalanche Mar. 28. He recorded two goals and one assist in a 4-2 win over the Calgary Flames Mar. 30, notched two assists in a 4-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks Apr. 2 and tallied one goal and one assist in a 4-3 loss to the Dallas Stars Apr. 3. Perry leads the NHL in goals (47), is tied for second place in game-winning goals (10) and ranks third in points (47-46--93). He has an active nine-game scoring streak, during which he has tallied 18 points (11 goals, seven assists) and a +9 rating.

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Anaheim Ducks announced today that playoff tickets for Anaheim’s 2011 Western Conference Quarterfinal series home games will go on sale this Saturday, April 2 at noon. Tickets may be purchased online at AnaheimDucks.com, or by phone with Ticketmaster at (714) 703-2545. Tickets may also be purchased in person at the Honda Center Box Office. All potential first round home games (up to four) will go on sale Saturday. There is no ticket limit per game in the first round. Teemu Selanne Notches Yet Another Career Distinction!
Teemu Selanne is the first player in NHL history with four score-tying goals in the final 3:00 of the third period in one season. Selanne has scored all four such goals (all in the last 2:07 of the third) over the last 18 games, including each of the last two contests. The Ducks won all four games in overtime. Stanley Cup Final Game 7 Prediction
Oh crap. This sucks. Home ice has been very good in this series. It's a lot like the Ducks/Devils final that I believe might still be going today were it not for the 7-game limit. My prediction? I want the Pens to pull it out, but I believe it is not likely considering the advantage the Red Wings have at "The Joe." So, let's take it to overtime, where Penguins' forward Petr Sykora will take a break-away shot, only to be stopped by Wings' goalie, Chris Osgood. Detroit then advances a high rebound for a lightning fast 3 on 2 break, and Pavel Datsyuk scores the Cup winner.

UPDATE: Ducks' Wisniewski Leaves Hospital
The OC Register is reporting, according to the Anaheim Ducks, defenseman James Wisniewski was released from UCI Medical Center on Wednesday afternoon.
No word yet on a timetable for his return to the ice.

Anaheim Ducks defenseman James Wisniewski continued to recover at UCI Medical Center in Orange County Wednesday after being struck in the chest by a shot during Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Detroit Red Wings.
Wisniewski is expected to remain at the hospital until Thursday morning, although a team spokesman said he could be released earlier if he continues to improve. He is being held there as a standard precautionary measure after being diagnosed with a lung contusion.

The Hockey Gods Have Spoken
You know, things have a way of evening out over time.
Nobody likes a bad call, especially when it goes against your team. Clearly, the Detroit Red Wings and their fans have a legitimate gripe with a call in the final moments of last night's game 3 of the NHL Western Conference Semi-final in Anaheim. Referee Brad Watson lost sight of the puck during a Red Wing rush to the Ducks doorstep, and he blew his whistle, just as the puck squirted free and Detroit's Johan Franzen poked it into the net.
Did Watson blow the call? Perhaps. But he made a call and stuck with it under a great deal of post-season pressure. Admirable. But all teams experience what they consider "bad calls" and it's not like the Ducks haven't experienced their share of calls that, at the time, seemed untimely if not erroneous.
I think the Hockey Gods even this stuff out. I can sleep well considering last night a cosmic wash when I recall 47-year-old thespian, Chris Chelios and his remarkable ability to draw a penalty and avoid a dive call. Or how about the apparent "cheap shot" to the mouth of James Wisniewski, delivered by the elbow of Tomas Holmstrom, moments after Wisniewski took a slapshot to the chest. The elbow drew blood, but the double-minor never came.
Did I feel great about last night's win? Sure I did. Did the Ducks feel great? A win is a win. Last night moves the team closer to their ultimate goal. I suspect the Red Wings will be sufficiently fired up for game 4, as will the Ducks if they saw the video of Holmstrom's elbow. It should be a barn burner...and the Gods will be watching!
